A sparsely populated (4513 according to the 2004 census) vast triangular area in the northern district, bordered by the River Teesta in the southeast and the Kanchenjunga Mountains in the west, a declared nature reserve of the Lepcha population is Dzongu. It falls completely into the Kanchenjunga biosphere reserve with its distant edges deep in the Kanchenjunga National Park

Best time to visit
It is ideal to visit Dzongu in late March and May. The sky remains clear and the visitors can witness the mountain top clearly.
How to reach Dzongu ?
The distance between New Jalpaiguri (NJP) station and Dzongu is about 175kms and will take about 7 hours by car via Rangpo.

Tholung Monastery, Lepcha Museums, Lingzya Waterfalls are some of the renowned places to visit in Dzongu. Bird and Butterfly watching, trekking are available for the tourists to enjoy.
